Let’s make resolutions in the new year to increase our energy and sharpen our focus by making different choices in an area of our lives that we may not consider—people.
- Ask yourself, Who are the people in my life that energize me, support me, encourage me? Take a few minutes to reflect on the people who lift you up. These are the ones that you feel happier just being in their company. You feel more energetic. You are inspired to expand how you think and what you think about. When we spend more time connecting with positive people, it’s a win-win. They help you and you help them to be our best selves. Think of a classroom with a teacher and students. When the teacher is energetic and challenging, then the students are inspired. They respond by participating and adding to the discussion. That fuels the teacher and on and on it goes. The cycle of energizing one another results in everyone growing and learning. I remember leaving some of the women’s groups that I facilitated feeling like I could fly!
- Now ask yourself, Who are the people in my life who drag me down, who just use me to get what they want, who discourage me by disappointing me again and again? This may be a reality check for you. I believe that there are 2 kinds of people that we all interact with—takers and givers. If you are basically a giver, then takers will use you to get what they want. They don’t care about you or your feelings. Their only interest in you is to manipulate you into giving them what they want. They take pride in using people for their own ends. They have no conscience. HERE IS THE BIG SHOCK FOR SOME OF YOU. PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO CONSCIENCE WILL NOT CHANGE. No matter how much you give them or love them or care about them. You are just wasting your time and energy.
